Our dog is 65 lbs with heavy black nails. I’ve tried several clippers and grinders over the past two years and been completely frustrated by them. My dog doesn’t like clippers, probably because we had to resort to the vet to trim her nails and they forced them on her. I’ve tried cheaper consumer grinders and although she will let me us it, they are not strong enough to actually trim her nails. As a result I have to spend more time on each nail, which makes the grinder hotter and frustrates my dog. And then her nails aren’t really much shorter.

I have bought other Dremel-type trimmers, files and clippers. Nothing has worked as good as this. My dog was either too afraid of the others or I was worried about hurting him or they just plain didn’t work. With this, he let me trim all of his VERY LONG nails with little to no protesting. The plastic cap (guide) helped to contain a lot of the nail dust. The only thing I would say is invest in additional sanding discs. There are 4 included with the tool and I used 2 for one trim job. I am guessing once his nails get down to a manageable length, I may get more use out of each disc.

This is a great upgrade to our older dremel – the wireless is awesome, of course – and the low noise level is remarkable! Our dogs don’t mind the noise at all – which is…well…shocking. Our dogs don’t even like the sound of paper dropping on the floor! But this dremel’s noise doesn’t bother them at all! huh. It really is very quiet.

I went back and forth on buying this because it is pricey compared to other nail trimmers on amazon. But I also figured I have never had any luck with the cheaper, $20-30 nail trimmers, so maybe that’s where I was going wrong. I wanted to avoid spending $20 on a bad trimmer multiple times, so I bit the bullet and bought this Dremel one, since I love my wireless Dremel drill. This drills through my dogs nails like butter! I don’t really like the attachment that is meant to guide the nail in to avoid the quick, I just use the bare circle little sander thing. Its quiet & my dog doesn’t mind me using it on her at all.
